Motion Graphics in Pixel Art Games

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Arcade Game Enthusiasts

I was commissioned by the game designer to create art reflecting its jejune aesthetic. As with all projects, I begin sketching my ideas on paper.

16x16 sprites with 2-3 frame animations evoked retro-style arcade play.

Aseprite, a pixel graphics tool, was perfect for designing and testing animations.

Fitting tons of personality into such a small space proved challenging, but fun!

It helps me to sketch my ideas on graph paper, keeping constraints in mind.

Though not my first game, the project gave a new perspective on organization and feasibility on a limited budget. Publishing to the Steam platform was exciting, and pushed me to create more games to share—which, since the end of this project, I have!
